Concert Band affords students many opportunities to be adjudicated and receive ratings that allow instructors to improve upon their inherent strengths and weaknesses. The first of the season is called Solo & Ensemble, and students sign up to perform solos, duets, or with small ensembles. They are given a grade of Good, Excellent, or Superior following their performances. There are three events associated with Solo & Ensemble Festival:
Soiree
Prior to performing in front of judges, a formal event is held to provide students with a venue to perform their Solo & Ensemble pieces for friends and family. Soiree is held at Anona United Methodist Church, and the performances are combined with a Dinner - which add up to a very enjoyable evening for all who attend.
Soiree will be held on Friday, February 7th, 2025.

District Solo & Ensemble
District Solo & Ensemble is a two-day event that is held at Pinellas County Center for the Arts (Gibbs High School). Students may play one or both days. They are given a grade of Good, Excellent, or Superior following their performances. If a student memorizes their piece and can perform it without using sheet music, they will receive a Good, Excellent, or Superior with distinction.
District Solo & Ensemble will be held on Friday, February 21st, 2025, and Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. The schedule will be released closer to the Festival and will be posted in the Band Room and emailed out to families involved. Students will be responsible for their transportation and meals while there.
State Solo & Ensemble
If a student or group of students receive a superior rating on a grade 5 or higher performance piece, they will be invited to perform at the State level for a highly prestigious group of judges. Students receive ratings of Good, Excellent, or Superior following their performances. If a student memorizes their piece and can perform it without using sheet music, they will receive a Good, Excellent, or Superior with distinction.
State Solo & Ensemble will be held on Thursday, March 20th. One day will be assigned. The schedule will be released closer to the Festival and will be posted in the Band Room and emailed out to families involved. Students will be transported by Charter Bus and will be responsible for bringing money for meals.
