The second set of adjudicated performances for Concert Bands are Music Performance Assessments. MPA’s involve the Concert Bands – Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Big Band. Each band performs three musical scores, and is given a grade of Good, Excellent, or Superior following their performances. There are two events associated with MPA:
Concert MPA
Concert Music Performance Assessment is the official adjudication opportunity for the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. A panel of three judges bestows a rating of Good, Excellent, or Superior after each band performs.
Concert MPA will be held Tuesday March 5 - Thursday March 7, 2019. We will be assigned 1 of the days. Date will not be released until late February.
Attire is Concert Black Dress - tuxes for boys, and black dresses for girls. Chaperones will be needed and a driver with a truck will be needed to pull a trailer. Sign ups will be posted as the date draws nearer. All students involved with Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band – including percussion – will be expected to attend.
State Concert MPA
Should Wind Ensemble and Jazz Big Band receive a superior rating on a grade 5 or higher performance piece at Concert MPA, they will be invited to perform at the State level for a highly prestigious group of judges. Students receive ratings of Good, Excellent, or Superior following their performances.
State Concert MPA will be held on Thursday April 25 - Saturday April 27, 2019. Schedule will be released closer to the Festival, and will be posted in the Band Room and emailed out to families involved. Attire is Concert Black dress - tuxes for boys, black dresses for girls. Students will be transported by Charter Bus and will be responsible for bringing money for meals.
